 |
The 2009 FIA GT3 European Championship draws to a close this coming weekend, with ALPINA
having just celebrated its biggest success of the year: a double victory in the ADAC GT Masters
series in Oschersleben (GER) last weekend.
All in all, an excellent basis with which the brace of BMW ALPINA B6 GT3s will attack the
season’s final round in Belgium. Originally planned for Dubai, the sixth round of the FIA GT3
calendar was moved to the Circuit Zolder and will in fact coincide with the final round of the
national Belgian GT Championship. Because both groups will race at once – a very unique situation
- the result will be a spectacular starter field of over 40 race cars.
Having successfully competed in previous FIA GT3 rounds, the tried and tested driver pairings
consisting of Claudia Hürtgen (GER) / Csaba Walter (HUN) and Jens Klingmann (GER) / Martin
Matzke (CZE), will again pilot BMW ALPINA B6 GT3s # 24 und # 25, respectively.
It’s actually not the first time that ALPINA has visited Circuit Zolder, Dieter Quester having driven
the BMW ALPINA CSL to victory there in 1977, when he went on to become the European
Touring Car Champion that same year.
The Circuit Zolder has recently undergone a substantial overhaul, including a complete resurface,
and offers a challenging combination of tight corners and technical chicanes. On the back
of their recent successes, the team from Buchloe will take up the fight for podium finishes!
