With over 175 cars competing for top starting positions, ALPINA surprised many by initially moving to the front of the grid with some very fast laps during qualifying. Eventually Stian Sorlie had to settle for 6th place on the grid with a lap time of 8 minutes and 17 seconds, just four seconds behind the leading Porsche. In the other B6 GT3 Claudia Hürtgen had qualified for 8th place on the grid but officials banned her to the back of her starting group as a result of her team-mate Michael Ammermüller having gone too fast during a yellow flag along with a whole group of cars.

During her stint in the race, however, Claudia managed to move all the way up into the top ten of her starting group before handing over to Valentin Hummel after 60 minutes. Valentin was following in the slipstream of a Zakspeed Viper when he was taken out by a slower car which had made way for the Viper but which had overseen the bright green BMW ALPINA. He managed to limp all the way to the pits despite a broken wheel suspension. However, the damage was too substantial putting an early end to the race for the ALPINA # 75.

Stian Sorlie in the other BMW ALPINA B6 GT3 # 78 was able to make good one position early on in the race but then fell back again to 6th as a result of deteriorating tyres. After seven laps Csaba Walter took over, himself handing over to Andreas Wirth after lap fourteen of the race. During the last stint Stian Sorlie really turned up the heat, eventually crossing the finish line to place the BMW ALPINA 5th in the GT3 class and securing 9th overall.

„Considering we haven’t been at the Nürburgring since the 24h race in May, we are quite happy to finish amongst the top ten. In order to get to the front of the field, we need to put some final work into fine-tuning the suspension set-up and optimising the engine for endurance races with regards to fuel consumption“ explained Andreas Bovensiepen.
